NEWS FLASH Channel 7 Broadcast Channel Changes

From 30 November 2022, changes in Channel 7’s channel line-up may require that your TV is re-tuned to reflect those updates.

Changes should automatically appear in the channel list of most TVs. If not, then you may need to retune your TV.

NOTE: If you live on the Sunshine Coast and you have had a technician manually tune your TV, DO NOT do an auto tune on your TV.

Instead do a manual tune. If you don’t know how to do a manual tune then go to this link on our website and it will give you the basic steps to do a manual tune. https://www.sunshineantenna.com.au/what-can-cause-pictures-to-breakup-manual-tuning/

If you would prefer a technician to do this, please book a service call on 54791999

If you have not had to manually tune you TV, then you can use the option to automatically re-scan channels within the TV menu. In many cases, the channel changes will appear after completing this process. If you are unsure how to re-scan channels you should refer to your TV manual or contact the manufacturer of your TV.

About MPEG4 (version 10) and why you may have trouble receiving the new channel

The Seven Network’s Channel 7 HD, 7mate HD and 7flix are free-to-air channels broadcast using MPEG4 technology (version 10). The earlier TVs only receive MPEG2. If you have an older MPEG2 TV you will have already had a problem not receiving CH78 or 68 and some others.

Channel 7’s newest channel, 7Bravo, launching in January 2023, will also be broadcast using MPEG4.

All major recognised brands of Televisions, Set Top Boxes and Personal Video Recorders (PVR’s) purchased since 2009, including any devices bearing the Freeview logo, will have this capability, but those bought prior to 2009 may not support MPEG4 (version 10). Some old receivers which have not been compatible during the introduction of the MPEG4 (version 10) service have included:

Schaub Lorenz Televisions
Baumann Meyer Televisions
NEC and Sherwood (rebadged NEC) Televisions
Next Wave PVR’s

How do I know if my TV doesn’t support MPEG4 (version 10)?

TVs that do not support MPEG4 (version 10) are most likely to demonstrate the following behaviour:

  • Channels may appear in the channel list; however, the picture is black and the sound may or may not be heard.

If you are unsure if your current TV supports MPEG4 (version 10), you will need to refer to your TV manual or contact the manufacturer of your TV. If you’re unsure how to re-scan channels you can refer to your TV manual or contact the manufacturer of your TV, or book a service call on 54791999

Hope this helps explain the change and what to do.

Cheers, Phil
